Islamic Shariah Council of Doncaster

A council of scholars offering Islamic guidance, marriage and divorce services, inheritance advice and scholarly review, so that the Muslim community can resolve its affairs with knowledge, fairness and dignity.

رِسَالَتُنَا

Our purpose

Knowledge in service of the community

The Council exists so that Muslims in Doncaster have a trusted, local place to bring their religious questions and family matters.

We are a body of qualified scholars and community members based in the heart of Doncaster. Our work is to give accurate Islamic guidance, to conduct Nikah, to help families who are in difficulty, and to provide a fair and transparent process for divorce, annulment and inheritance.

Everything we do is guided by the Qur’anic command to judge with justice and by the Prophetic example of gentleness and reconciliation. We work within the law of the land, refer matters outside our remit to the appropriate authorities, and never promise an outcome before a matter has been properly heard.

Guidance

Clear answers to questions of worship, family, finance and daily life, grounded in the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the recognised schools of jurisprudence.

Resolution

A patient, confidential process for marital and family disputes that always seeks reconciliation before any ruling is made.

Scholarship

Decisions reached by qualified scholars in consultation, recorded in writing, and issued with reasons so that every party understands the outcome.

“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due, and when you judge between people, to judge with justice.”

Qur’an 4:58

Public record

Investigations into rulings by other bodies

Where a ruling issued elsewhere is overt and affects the community, the Council reviews it and publishes its position for transparency.

Our reviews are bound by the Qur’anic prohibition on spying and ill assumption. We examine only what is public, invite the issuing body to respond, and record the date of every review.

  • Ref. 2026-001

Validity of a Nikah conducted by video call

The Council does not object to a remote Nikah in principle, but advises that it should only be conducted with verified identities, a continuous recorded session and the wali’s explicit participation. Certificates issued without these safeguards should be verified before reliance.

  • Ref. 2026-002

Issuance of an Islamic divorce certificate without notifying the husband

Review in progress. A concluding statement will be published once the issuing organisation has been given the opportunity to respond.
